Where is the Spam folder in Hotmail?

By default, all email messages that Windows Live Hotmail perceives as being potentially spam will be placed inside the Junk mail folder. But since Hotmail added the ability to show or hide folders and subfolders, you may not be able to see the Spam folder and junk email messages it contains. So, where is the Spam folder?

What folder does Hotmail use for spam emails and junk mail?

When you login to your Hotmail account from a web browser like Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc. - your email folders will always be displayed on the left side of the screen. The middle and right are devoted to the listing of emails and their content. So, whenever you are trying to find an email folder like the spam folder (actually called "Junk" mail folder), look on the left, shown as "2" on this screenshot:

Since the spam folder is a standard email folder, it is always listed before all folders you create yourself. If the left pane on your Hotmail account looks like the screenshot below, and you see "Folders" between "Inbox" and "Quick views", click on the arrow on the left of the word "folders" to expand all folders, including spam folder:

Once all email folders and subfolders are showing on the left, look for a folder called "Junk", which should be listed at the top or near the top (depending on whether or not you have create subfolders in the inbox). The Junk folder is where Hotmail stores spam emails (or messages perceived to be spam). The number shown between brackets indicates how many unread spam emails are in the Junk folder:

Just click on the word "Junk (x)", and Hotmail will open the spam folder and show you all junk mail it contains. Later tutorials will explain how to manage spam and junk mail in your Hotmail account, but this is it for now: you now know where the spam folder is in Windows Live Hotmail, and how to access your junk mail.
